- About
During the age of sail it was not uncommon for Flemish fishermen to go fishing in Icelandic waters. Often times they were away from home for 6 months. Johan Depotter wrote a book about them.
The book tells the story of 975 Flemish fishermen who left the harbours of Dunkerque or Gravelines to go fishing in Icelandic waters from 1815 to 1938. For every person he described, he tried to find out their motives. The 1.200 pages thick publication in two volumes is richly illustrated with over 1.000 images. The book is part of the HMS project, made with support from the ERDF through the 2 seas programme.
The book can be bought at the NAVIGO-museum
